It’s been quite the Autumn here in the Northeast from the brutal cold front in September, to a snowy Halloween, and now a November with temperatures in the 70’s. I suppose it wouldn’t be New England weather without being unpredictable, but these last few weeks have been an interesting experiment waiting to see what mother nature has in store. One of the biggest challenges for me is dressing for a particular season when the weather does not reflect the clothes. With the range of temperatures we’ve been experiencing lately, I’ve been reaching for lighter pieces that are still perfect for fall, but won’t have me sweating when it is suddenly 65 and sunny.
My favorite piece so far has been this adorable silk cashmere sweater top from Banana Republic (pictured below). The shorter sleeve length makes it ideal for warmer days, but with a lighter material, you could easily build on it with a few layers. I love the Camel option for fall, but knowing myself, I will likely also purchase a black one, as it’s such a great staple to have on hand for work and every day wear.
Another similar option that I love is this one from J.Crew. It is also a silk-blend, and as they describe it, “the perfect warm-weather sweater.” I love the sleeves, and think the Vintage Burgundy or Hthr Hickory (pictured below) would look beautiful for Thanksgiving paired with a midi skirt, or a nice pair of trousers.
The last option that I’ve just added to my wish list is this adorable cropped cardigan from Abercrombie. I love the orange spice option (pictured below) but think the grey leopard print would also be great for winter. What I like most about this one is that since it’s a button-up cardigan, you could easily wear it alone, or unbuttoned with a dress or top underneath.
To finish off my look I paired the top with my favorite pair of cropped jeans from Mango, and a pair of Mules. While I love boots, I am definitely taking advantage of the days when I can still wear backless and open-toed shoes. Mules are probably my favorite pick for fall, as it’s so easy to find a cute, comfortable pair that will look amazing with just about anything. Sadly my black pair from Aldo are on final sale with limited sizes left, but I also love this very similar option from Nine West, and they come in a few great styles and colors.
Do you like holding on to the warmer temperatures like I do, or are you ready to bundle up for winter?
